Professional Commercial Driver, M/F/D - training position


Our Company

The launch of the WSG, Waldheimer Truck Freight, Ltd., WSG Waldheimer Speditionsgesellschaft GmbH & Co. KG, occurred on 1 November, 1992, thru the privatization of segments of the former, VEB Kraftverkehr Waldheim.

 

Today, MEIDEL GROUP, the family-managed truck freight, shipping and logistics company employs approx. 200 personnel and staff at the Waldheim, Gelsenkirchen and Waldenburg locations. Of this number, some 30 are trainees in the areas of truck freight, warehousing, maintenance and repair, and as professional drivers.
The job profiles range from regional, national and international freight transport services, warehouse logistics (approx. 20,000 m² storage space under roof) to maintenance and repair shops and other services in the area of light-utility vehicles. These operations are supported by a fleet of more than 70 heavy transporters; each vehicle is customized with the latest technology and equipment to handle the specials needs of the automotive, paper and new furniture logistics markets.


The Training, an Overview

Commercial Driver is a recognized trade of the German, BBiG, Vocational Training Act. Besides the strong possibility of being hired by the company providing the three-year training; being a trained Professional Commercial Driver opens up numerous opportunities for future employment with truck freight companies, logistics centres, traffic enterprises, as well as with industries and trade corporations that have their own internal transport / traffic operations.

 

Requirements:

Realschule* or Abitur** Diploma and being physically fit.


* type of secondary / junior high school for ages up to 16
** higher education entrance qualification


Training Location

The in-house training takes place at 76 Hauptstrasse in the repair shop at the Waldheim location. The school training is taught in blocks at the Chemnitz Industrieschule, the Chemnitz School of Industry, in accordance with the Chemnitz Chamber of Trade. Inter-company driver's licence training generally occurs at the Chemnitz Verkehrsakademie, Chemnitz Traffic Academy. Trainees 18 years or older can choose a different licensing organization, for example, the Hoyerswerde, AGK, Commercial Vehicle Educational Association.

 

 

Training Contents

Theoretical School Training

  • Functional principles of the vehicle's systems, chassis and body
  • Assessment of open road and traffic safety
  • Policies and procedures in the event of an accident
  • Transport preparations
  • Product testing, load planning
  • Driving of different vehicle combinations
  • Legal regulations and others

 

The Practical Training at the Training Company Encompasses, among others:

  • Pre-operation and Safety Checks
  • Special tasks in freight traffic, such as, but not limited to: taking over and physically checking the vehicle's load and the cargo's documents, a roadworthy load plan, vehicle loading & unloading, route planning, being responsible for the cargo's and vehicle's papers, maintenance and operation of cargo handling equipment.
  • Compliance with driving times, rest periods and economical driving requirements and guidelines.
  • Vehicle maintenance and care: cleaning of vehicle, visual inspections, functional checks, correction or repair of minor defects.


As of 10 September, 2009, in accordance with Germany's Professional Driver Qualification Law, BkrQG, Berufskraftfahrer Qualifikations-Gesetz; a trainee is allowed, at age 18 and having acquired the CE/C1E driver's licence and being in possession of a copy of their training contract, to drive a commercial truck in Germany. Outside the borders of Germany, the respective laws and regulations of that country apply.
